Watt Electric Vehicle Company (WATT EV) is a UK-based innovator developing lightweight electric passenger and commercial vehicles. Through a new pilot project with DigiProd Pass, WATT EV is preparing for the 2027 EU Battery Regulations, with a focus on Digital Battery Passports for automotive batteries.
As part of the collaboration, DigiProd Pass will deliver a Digital Battery Passport solution for WATT EV’s battery modules. The solution will initially be applied to a lab car and subsequently showcased through a demonstrator vehicle built for the CENEX Expo 2026.
For WATT EV, the pilot provides a practical opportunity to explore how digital records for automotive battery modules can be created, managed, and maintained throughout the product lifecycle. For DigiProd Pass, it offers a real-world engineering and exhibition environment in which to demonstrate the validation of its Digital Battery Passport solution.
From 2027, automotive traction batteries placed on the EU market will be required to carry a Digital Battery Passport under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. These passports should contain technical, sustainability, legal, circular and lifecycle data. Through this pilot, WATT EV is examining the regulatory requirements in detail and testing DigiProd Pass’s solution to understand how best to achieve compliance. This proactive approach ensures that WEVC’s vehicles and battery systems will be ready for placement on the European market in line with upcoming legislation.
WATT EV brings expertise in advanced automotive engineering and lightweight electric vehicle design. Its modular vehicle platforms are purpose-built to make electric commercial fleets practical and commercially attractive by optimising efficiency, driving range, and total cost of ownership. This initiative reflects WATT EV’s broader commitment to sustainability, regulatory readiness, and transparency across the full lifecycle of its products, demonstrating leadership that extends beyond vehicle hardware into data, compliance, and long-term fleet value.
DigiProd Pass contributes a specialised digital platform designed specifically to meet the emerging requirements of the EU Battery Regulation. Its technology translates complex regulatory and lifecycle obligations into an interoperable data model capable of capturing, updating, and sharing battery information over time. By integrating with WATT EV’s battery systems, DigiProd Pass enables the creation and ongoing management of Digital Battery Passports that are both regulatory-compliant and practical for everyday use.
This collaboration demonstrates how engineering innovation and digital compliance can work together to future-proof electric mobility.
